What is 3M ? - Muda , Mura & Muri ,The Toyota 3M Model , 3M क्या है

This system is develop by Toyota,for eliminating three production system enemies of Lean Manufacturing Muda,Mura & Muri .3M system is one of the most important tools in lean manufacturing used for eliminating waste,thats why Toyota Production System define these three categories of waste.

• Muda-Waste

• Mura - Unevenness

• Muri -Overburden

1. Mura

   If we eliminate this waste from our production/office floor no impact is done in our     work because this is non value adding portion of work.
   It is because of uselessness of Machinery,process and people.

7 Types of Muda

• Muda of Over Production

• Muda in Transportation 

• Muda in Over Processing

• Muda of inventory

• Muda in Excess Movement/Motion

• Muda of Waiting

• Muda of Correction/Defects

These days apart from above seven Muda one more defect is added name as Non Utilized Talent

2. Mura

            It is also a concept of Toyota Production System, this category of waste is relate to unevenness in customer demand, Transportation waste, floor space waste, increase inventory cost etc.

3. Muri

    It is also concept of Toyota Production System we can eliminate this waste by making our workplace systematically or preparing standard. It is because of overburden on manpower and excessive load on equipment capacity.

For Example

• Manpower doing there job with more physical stress

• No standard follow

• Lack of proper training

By developing 5S System in our work place we eliminate Muda,Mura and Muri waste and if we eliminate 3M waste from our workplace we improve quality, safety and production efficiency.
